You have the setting of a kingdom been protected by this powerful hero who faces off against any threat, including a very 80s cartoon looking villain. This book feels like a weird dark take on He-Man. ![]() We also get a side story about the origin of Viking Wolf’s second in command which is a short but sweet tale of two friends from different backgrounds and races. While this is just the start, the book decides to not focus on the origins of the main character like previous books and instead it has him already as an established badass you do not want to mess with. In terms of writing, this one is the easiest one to read through due to its solid pacing, jumps you straight into the action and focus on the solid art that makes things feel big, explaining why this book is a bit bigger in size compared to the standard comic and paperback. His trusty blood hammer is a very deadly weapon and we get to see it in action here in gruesome ways and it’s just awesome. His hulking size makes him easily the most imposing and strongest looking one. Viking Wolf in terms of design earns the second place and by very little (Sovereign’s is slightly cooler for me due to his high tech armor). Out of the wolfmen we’ve covered this month. ![]() So yes! This is a very unique way to play with the werewolf concept as we have our hero replacing Travis in our world and sends him to Moonshire to interact with the anthropomorphic creatures and returns once Gunnar is done. What the f- This is the most graphic werewolf transformation ever!! His quest leads to him follow his target to modern day world, where he bonds with a human named Travis and uses him to transform himse. ![]() The Tollman murders a friend of the prince and swears to take him down. When arriving to the castle, he sees his fellow wolf guard murdered and his father kidnapped by an old foe. The comic starts with prince Gunnar, defender of Moonshire facing off invading giants with the mighty Blood Hammer, the strongest weapon in the universe. This is the start of a dark fantasy starring a huge Viking wolf man that gets transported in a unique way to our world that subverts a few werewolf tropes. Viking Wolf Volume One is a indiegogo funded book written by Mark Poulton (no stranger around this parts with USAssasin, Graveyard Shift, Seadog and code name: kill switch) and art by Matt Dalton. Happy Halloween! to celebrate this occasion, I’m checking out another heroic wolf comic from the indie scene that just recently arrived at my doorstep this week.
